Description

Fox Light, Magic Hidden in Plain Sight is a collection of life stories about magic too often overlooked. I believe we enter this world as Spirit and clothe ourselves in human bodies. As we go through life, the sparks of magic are in plain sight, but we are taught as children that what cannot be explained with science or the five senses does not exist. Our eyes are slowly blindered. But I believe when we are courageous or curious enough to peel off the blinders, we can see our experiences differently; we can see the amazing magical incidences that occur in regular life. I have selected 31 events in my life, for example, seeing my beloved dog’s spirit pool around her body when she passed and becoming a wispy, diaphanous blue scarf as it floated up and up, curling right through the ceiling. Transparent hiking companions, trees flashing at night, hearing the magic in Brother Wind, experiencing the mystery of beekeeping – all speak to the workings of the Earth and the Spirit around and through us. Each chapter is a self-contained short story. Each describes something that has occurred in my life, with a personal glimpse into my deep love for Mother Earth and the beauty and magic that enhance our walk in this lifetime.

Along with the 31 chapters, I have created an illustration for each reflecting its essence.

31 ink and airbrush, full color illustrations highlight the symbolism in each story.

Color cover, color interior, original illustrations for each chapter, 6″ x 9″ x .5″, perfect bound, 200 pages

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

Fox Light is truly Magic Hidden in Plain Sight! This book is more than a memoir; it is a visual feast of graceful illustrations and fluid words that bring the reader into the author’s mind and private heart. Sue Lion’s beautiful writing illuminates the mind with detail, giving each short story a breath of life. With her enchanting use of words, the reader is nothing less than spellbound. Sue accomplished the same alchemy in her first book, Night Threads, A Weaving of Soul Stories from the Dreamtime. Also, a must-read. Thank you, Sue, for gracing the world with your amazing gifts. ”
~ Trisha Watson, author of The Spiritual Adventures of Russell the Dog – A Blend of Truth, Fiction, and Inspiration from the Other Side

“These vignettes of Sue’s life powerfully spoke to me as they evoked memories in my own past. It was like going down a special road that can shake loose people’s own personal experiences – the chapter about Skating in the Wind reminded me that I can “dust off the untidy chalk that comes with messy creativity, and not settle for the ordinary.” It was a satisfying mix of mystical and Mother Earth, and since Sue has a gentle way of using words, even if I hadn’t had that particular experience, my eyes were opened to the power of it. This was a beautifully written memoir, one I couldn’t put down.”
~ Susan Langley, former Hospice Worker and CNA

“Sue Lion’s Fox Light is a masterpiece of words of wisdom, magical stories, and art that brings everything to life in a powerful way. As I read Fox Light I was deeply moved from tears to joy and moments of healing laugher. Stories are what make us uniquely human, and Sue’s stories carry a deep resonance that peers into life’s mysteries and miracles. I could imagine myself in a circle around a crackling fire with bright stars overhead. Each story is like a pearl on an heirloom necklace that will be a priceless legacy for many years to come.”
~ Julie Loar, award-winning author of Tarot & Dream Interpretation and Goddesses for Every Day

“Sue’s extraordinary poetic descriptions of her life experiences and particularly her love of Mother Earth made it possible for me to envision the whole picture, from the grizzlies in camp to the owls on a black velvet night to skating with the wind in the frozen north. Fox Light caused me to do a lot of reflection; I recalled times and feelings in my life that had been ignored and now gave me a sense of comfort. This is a book for all ages, all times. It has a wisdom sprinkled throughout the chapters that merges so easily with the stories told. There is indeed magic hidden in plain sight.”
~ Christine Zanoni, former Tech/Healthcare Business Process Improvement Leader

“Sue is a talented artist and graphic designer. She also has a rare gift for elegant descriptive prose bringing words to life. In this collection of magical memoirs you will see both brilliant colors and subtle differences of shade; you will smell fragrances; you will feel the weather; you will hear sounds of nature. You will delight in the wonderful illustrations she has added to the stories. But most of all, you will experience the emotions of these events – joy, sadness, wonder, surprise, curiosity, hope and above all magic.”
~ Judy Cole, Organization Development Consultant

“Sue’s ability to paint pictures of her very personal experiences is captivating. She achieves a balance that is both simple and mystically complex. I’d like to think all humans share her ability to connect with the essence of nature, animals and those who have passed. I can certainly relate to many of her vignettes and found her understanding of those very private and universal experiences comforting and affirming.”
~ Cindy Hanna, Founder and Past President of Hanna Design Ltd.

“This is so beautiful. It made me immediately remember several of my own experiences. Sue’s writing makes me feel otherworldly.”
~ Holliday Hutson-Thompson, award-winning visual artist

Fox Light is a peaceful and loving read. It will bring pleasure, reassurance, and calm to its readers.”
